Your power is out! Now what? Fusion Electric wants to save you the charge of a service call, so before picking up your phone to call a Kansas City electrician try these things out first. We know that some of these tips may sound like common sense but trust us, you will be glad that you ran through this list first.
Check to See if Your Breaker Tripped
If your power is out, you will want to check and see if your breaker tripped. To do this, go to your electrical service panel. This is typically found in the basement for homes in the Kansas City area. The circuit breaker lever will either be in the OFF position or somewhere in between ON and OFF. Be sure that is first fully OFF and then flip it back to ON.
Check the Connection
Believe it or not, we have been called to a house a few times only for the homeowner to realize that their electronic device was not actually plugged in. Save yourself the charge of a service call and just double check that your lamp is actually plugged in!
Your GFCI May Have Tripped
A GFCI, or ground-fault circuit interrupter, is used in outlets to prevent electrocution. Generally, they are installed where water and electrical circuits may accidentally interact such as bathrooms, kitchens, etc. If an electrical current of at least 5 mA leaks, your GFCI will trip. When this happens, the RESET button will pop up. Simply push the button in and test to see if your power is now working.
Call Your Utility Company for Local Outage
A final step to take if your home’s power is out is to call Kansas City Power & Light. They will be able to let you know if there are any power outages in your area. This will save you a service charge.
If you tried these four steps to restoring power in your Kansas City area home and your power is still out, it is time to give a professional electrician a call to come out and diagnose the problem. Fusion Electric is available for you at 913-563-7975.
